Grotte Chauvet

The Ardèche place today at the forefront of World Prehistory with this unique prehistoric heritage : the first image of humanity ( 36,000 years).
This cave, located near the natural arch of the Pont d’Arc , will upset the knowledge of Paleolithic Art . For conservation reasons, it was decided upon discovery that the cave would never be open to the public .
Two structures, closely related, have been created to enhance this unique prehistoric heritage in the world : the European Centre for Prehistoric Research (CERP ) and the Exhibition ” Grotte Chauvet- Pont d’Arc .”
A visit to the exhibition will discover the fabulous paintings and engravings left by the Cro- Magnon in the Chauvet- Pont d’Arc there 35,000 years. Through educational and cultural services CERP , you can dive in the heart of Prehistory and relive the life of prehistoric man .
CERP and the exhibition center are located in the village of Vallon Pont d’Arc ( southern Ardeche) .
